Baju Kuning

I knew a man. In fact, everybody in Tanjung Aru town knew of him. We may not know his real name, but he is a familiar face. It is no secret that this man got some mental problem. People called him the Orang Gila and Orang Sot. I just call him Baju Kuning due to his trademark yellow shirt. It has blackened over time due to his sweat. I doubt he ever washed or even changed his wardrobe. Did I mention that he wore a cheap baseball cap also? Nothing fancy, just enough to cover his head from the blistering heat. He loved to wander in Tanjung Aru town, all day long.

He barely uttered any words. The only time I ever hear him say anything is when he ordered his favourite drink. “Kopi O satu!” he would say. You see, every morning he would come into our coffee shop to have his drink. On occasions, my father would give him a piece of paper and ask him to scribble 4D numbers on it. My father would then go buy it with the hope of kena nombor” Some numbers did win but most didn’t (No surprises there). That didn’t stop my father from asking him again and again though. His reward for this would be a char siew bao, sometimes a box of cigarettes.

Mental problems didn’t stop him from completing his obligation as a man though; ogling pretty girls. He would stare at any liang mois and sumandaks (pretty ones, of course) for a long, long time. Scanning them from head to toe. This usually happens when the ladies are eating whatever in the coffee shop. Understandably, the girls would get really uncomfortable but this activity of his is harmless. He would usually just walk away after that.

I’ve heard stories about him. He was once a boss of a certain company, repairing refrigerators. He once had a wife and children but they all left him for unknown reasons. I’m no Sherlock, but that may had an effect on his downward spiral. People told me that he was once admitted to the Hospital Mental Bukit Padang and that he caused a ruckus in Tanjung Aru once by burning a lorry to a crisp.

A few days ago, I found out that this man had passed away. That day, he was doing his usual routine, walking around Tanjung Aru town when he suddenly fell to the ground. He never woke up after that. It is discovered that he had cancer all along. After I learned about his death, I became unusually sad. I’m surprised that his death had affected me. He was just a man, a mentally-ill one at that. He was nothing more than a familiar face but I felt really sorry about his fate. Why? Is it because I pity the way his life ended? Is it because I’m afraid that I’ll become like him someday? Is it because he died a lonely death, with no family members by his side? Is it because he will never come to our coffee shop again? Who knows?

This is the only picture I got of him. He would stand in this corner of our coffee shop for a long time, looking out into the distance. I may not know your name, but you have my prayers. Rest in peace, Baju Kuning. May the good Lord bless your soul.

New Year Resolution Baini.

A New Year resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a personal goal, project, or the reforming of a habit (copy dari Wikipedia baini). It's only the 9th of January, so I guess it is still acceptable to post about New Year resolution. Right?

To start off, New Year resolution and me doesn't get along too well. You know the drill. You hear your conscious mind, with the lemah-lembut voice talking to you. CONVINCING you to turn a new leaf this new year, give up all your bad habits and be a better person. All with the semangat "SAYA BOLEH!!!!", echoing all over the room.

But seriously, who am I kidding? These so called resolutions doesn't last long. It exist in words and thoughts, but will never manifest in actions. There are however, exceptions.

Some people do follow up to their resolutions. These species of people in general are known as Manusiayangtidakwujud Sapiens [citation needed]. Should you see them bragging, it is always okay to throw rocks at them. Pedulilah, siapa suruh diurang tembirang-tembirang.

Saya mengaku, I never did and never will follow through with my new year's resolution for as long as I live. Even if I try to,the outcome will be the opposite from the one I desire. Therefore, this year I want to do something different. My resolutions are as follows.

Instead of losing 10kg, go on a diet and become slim again,
I resolute to gain more weight, eat whatever I want and become as bulat as I can. For all I know, the beliaus always say "Nampak lebih sihat bah kalau gemuk".

Instead of studying more and get better results,
I want to learn DotA (some people still find it hard to believe that I don't know a thing about this game!) and get horrible results, that will certainly make any lecturer cries.

Instead of berjimat cermat more this year,
I want to spend like there's no tomorrow, buy things I'll never use and unavoidably, get used to eating Maggi everyday.

Any question? Good. Happy New Year 2011 y'all. :)

On a different note, my next post will be about this.

Probably.

The Bag Challenge Baini

Since CrazyCyn tagged me and also said "I wanna know what’s inside a guy’s bag" , I guess I'm up to the challenge. Here goes.

First of all, meet the bag. Say hi.

I'm not exactly crazy about bags, so I only have two. The other would be my laptop bag. I bought this one during my first year in UMS after my old bag terkuyak badly. Also if it ever crossed your mind that "Macam murah ja beg ko ni", that's because it is. RM29.90 during a sale in Wisma Merdeka. Anyway let's start dissecting, shall we?

Technically, the thing above is not exactly the "inside" of my bag. I just want to show you this monkey key-chain that I love very much. Monkeys are cool, don't you agree?

My contact lens kit and my glasses. Hands down, these are the most important things in my bag. Without these, I can barely see anything because I have horrible eyesight. I barely use my glasses anymore outside my house but still, the big conflict. Contact lens or glasses; which is the best choice for me? Can you help?

Me with no glasses
Me with glasses.

Yeah...dream on, right?

My spare handphones; Samsung SGH-C130 and CSL Bluberry. Just in case, if my Sony Ericsson decided to mo mati tiba-tiba. Seriously, I don't even know why I carry two spares even though I only have 1 SIM card.

My mini umbrella. Don't you dare comment about the color. Who cares if it's purple. As long as it serves its function, fine with me.

GATSBY Moving Rubber wax. My hair needs product for styling too, you know.

My necktie. Wait, how the hell did it get in here? I can't remember the last time I use this, since I barely wear any formal clothes to class anymore. Even if I did, I prefer being necktie-less since I'm not very comfortable with it. Nanti-nantilah baru saya guna ko balik.

My student card. I need this especially when going out for a movie. RM3 discount may not sound a lot, but for us students it's divine. Notice that I'm much thinner in the picture. Curses.

My medication.Just in case. I need them for my leg but I stopped taking them already. My leg is already fine but I had to stop doing heavy duty sports like karate anymore out of fear that it will hurt again. Pity, isn't it?

Unpaid parking ticket. Yikes! I hope nobody from DBKK is reading this.

My calculator, pencil case and a reference book (which I barely open. Hanya sebagai hiasan)

Comic book baini. A much needed savior while waiting for the bus to come but I don't usually carry one all the time. Depends on the situation.

Since that's out of the way, let the tagging begins. Kamurang punya turn lagi.
8. Asha
9. Suer
11. Dayan

Show them contents to moi. Yang nda kena tag, go ahead and do it also. I wanna see. :D

Diskriminasi Menjatuhkan Aku.

"Situasi" by Bunkface. What can I say? One of my favorite songs, no doubt about it. It's one the reason why I started listening to Malay songs again and it's also one of my Kbox session staples. Any chance I get, I'll sing this song full heartedly in front of my friends. Duet or not, sumbang atau nda, that's a different story altogether. Yeah, sepa suruh bawa saya pigi Kbox.

100% your fault.

One thing I've always wondered however, is how did they come up with the lyrics? Why is the song called "Situasi"? What are the messages that they are trying to convey? It's catchy, sure. It's sing-along-able, indeed. However, one have to wonder about these things (especially me) after listening to it for about 1347873248454324393476 times already. Bear in mind that this song was released about 3 years ago (correct me if I'm wrong) and I STILL don't get it. Don't get me wrong, however. I'm not here to argue with the song writer or anything. I barely know how to make anything that rhymes, let alone produce a chart topper. It's just something that pops out of my mind and hopefully, others too. Hence just for sh!ts and giggles, here's my analysis of the lyrics. Hopefully you'll like it.

(I'm being satirical so please don't sue me.)

Bunkface - Situasi

Diskriminasi menjatuhkan aku, (Discrimination have beaten me)
Reputasi kini menjadi bisu, (The reputation is now mute)
Dan aku, ku layu oh oh di situ. (And I withered, oh oh right there)

What is the first thing that pops out from your mind after reading these sentences? This must be some kind of poetry, right? Because seriously, I cannot freakin' understand what they meant at all. How can you mute a reputation? And God knows what it even means. Why did he withered anyway? Are you a plant? Then misti ada urang lupa siram air sama ko ni kan. Andu.

Mengharapkan sesuatu yang baru, (Hoping for something new)
Itulah impian aku. (That is my dream)

What is this something "new" that you're hoping for? A new car? A pretty girlfriend? Lots and lots of money? Be specific next time for crying out loud.
The fact that your "dream" involves "hoping" for something? Wait, isn't that the same thing? So you say it's something like "hoping kuasa dua"? Hoping for hoping for something new to happen. Hmmm. Mind blowing.

"Huh?"

Dan bilakah menghilang, (
And when it is gone)

What is?

Musnahlah musnah impian 'tuk menggapai bintang, (All hopes for reaching the stars is gone)

So you want to be an astronaut now? I'd say forget about it. It involves hours and hours of rigorous physical training to keep you fitter than an Olympic athlete, dozens of IQ tests and lots of other things that your body will never be able to keep up with. Besides, you "withered" already. Remember that, sissy?

Terangi hidupku, (Light up my world)

Please do. I need to revise for my final paper this Friday tapi teda karen oh sekarang ni. Cilaka banar-banar eh. Not too bright though. I have very sensitive eyes.

Ku mahu kau tahu engkaulah destinasiku, (I want you to know that you are my destination)
Dalam ingatanku, (In my mind)

Oh, now I get it. From what I see and get from this sentence, there's this one guy who fell in love with this girl, which he describes as his "destination". I guess that means that he just wants to court her, right? I don't know, your guess is as good as mine. Luckily I'm not a pervert and didn't interpret it in the most suggestive way possible.

....what? Apa tingu-tingu?

Kerna diri ini tak daya lagi ,(Because I cannot take it anymore)
Menempuh hidup yang ku temui, (To face the life that I found)
Dan aku, ku tunggu oh oh di situ. (
And I'll wait oh oh right there)

If you can't face hardships in life (or a life that you "found" conveniently) and just "wait" until the problem goes away, then I have some pretty bad news for you son.

Life is full of challenges that you need to face on a daily basis.
Life is about teaching you to stand up when everything is pulling you down.
Persevere, rather than giving up.
It's a big sh!t sandwich, and we all got to take a bite.

...maybe I'm taking it a little too far, no?

Mengharapkan sesuatu yang baru, (
Hoping for something new)
Itulah impian aku. (That is my dream)

For the love of God and everything good, WHAT IS THIS "NEW" THING THAT YOU'RE WAITING FOR?! Can you be more un-specific than this?

Dan bilakah menghilang, (And when it is gone)
Musnahlah musnah impian 'tuk menggapai bintang, (All hopes for reaching the stars is gone)
Terangi hidupku, (Light up my world)
Ku mahu kau tahu engkaulah destinasiku, (I want you to know that you are my destination)
Dalam ingatanku. (In my mind)

And the chorus goes on until the song ends. I can't continue.

That's all. I need to have a break.

Will you "like" my Facebook status?

I love Facebook, that's established. Love it so much in fact, that I started to do many crazy things. Most of it involving Facebook statuses. You know, the one where you post a status(usually containing questions or challenges), somebody go and "like" it and you have to do that particular challenge. Like this.

It was very silly. I was worried about the 4th "like" but I was absolutely sure there will be only 3 "likes" since I figured that nobody would be brave enough to go for the fourth one. I closed my laptop, took a sip of my cold Milo and watched the news on the TV. After a few moments, I went and check my Facebook. You know what I saw?

It was a full house. Somebody did become the 4th person and it was my friend, Fauziah. Meaning, a week of "in a relationship" with her. I could just say "Haha.Nda payah la baitu.Main-main saja" and go on with life. Sadly, my curiosity got the best of me (I want to see people's reaction) and also for the fact that she challenged "Bah,request bah kalo berani.Ni malam ah". And thus, inilah yang terjadi. Jeng jeng jeng.

On my side(FB profile), people didn't pay much attention. 5 "likes" and 6 comments only. It's probably due to the fact that my friends know that this was only a practical joke, or that I was not popular in Facebook. Either way, the same cannot be said when I look at Fauziah's profile.

My goodness, people took this more seriously on her side. I mean, just look at the figures. My coursemates, her friends and much more. Seeing this, I wanted to stop this nonsense as soon as possible (takut jadi lebih serius) but dammit, I just can't help laughing at the comments. Maybe leave it just a little bit longer?

And then, there was this one girl. The one I like to call batu api, and her name is Caroline.

Over time, my conscience and hers got the best of us.I just can't imagine if we went on for a week. I mean, what if both Fauziah and I have secret admirers (perasan) ? One thing's for sure is that both of us will surely kena potong markah. Nobody wants that, right? In the end, both of us agreed to end this nonsense after less than 24 hours.

Maaf ku tak bisa memilihmu.

Life goes on and I made a promise to myself that I will never play this "Facebook-like-nonsense" again. Ever. Not in a thousand years. I definitely learnt my lesson.

A thousand years pass by without us noticing.

Step Up 3D

Last week I watched Step Up 3D in GSC 1Borneo. With all the hype surrounding the movie, I just got to see it for myself.

RM15 well-spent? We'll see.

Let’s get this out of the way first. I’m not a big fan of dancing. I’m also not a big fan of dance movies. Particularly because all of them (the one I’ve seen anyway) feels exactly the same. Generally, the formula always goes something like this

  • There’s always going to be a big dance-off competition around the corner and the dance crew (in this movie, The Pirates) is preparing for it.
  • The new guy (if there is any) awes everybody with his/her dance moves. The new guy joins the crew.
  • Mid-way through the movie, something goes wrong. E.g.: A person betrays the team by leaking their dance moves and/or joins the opposing team. Mind you, this happens conveniently right before the final showdown.
  • Everybody give up hope and suddenly, a person in the team (usually the new guy) inspires everyone to move on.
  • They defy the odds and win the competition.

The new guy.

The question remains. Is Step Up 3D any different? The answer is no. It’s the same old, same old.

Don’t take me wrong however. I LOVE this movie. Seriously, we all know we didn’t come and watch this movie to enjoy the “deep” storyline. We came to see the DANCE MOVES and my God, this movie is saturated with fantastic choreography. From the robot dance to the finals where The Pirates put lots and lots of LEDS on their shirt, the dances were out of this world. With the exception of a few of course, which looks like a bunch of people having a seizure. But that just probably me.

Did I mention that I watched this movie in 3D? After my horrible 3D experience (if you can even call it that) with The Last Airbender, I was understandably a bit reluctant to spend my RM15 for the ticket. Thank God it was worth it. Everything felt like it’s going to pop out any moment from the screen and some scenes were cleverly designed for this purpose. From the bubbles, the flying slurpee, splashing water on my glasses and so on. Now this is what I’m talking about.

Surprisingly, my favorite part of the movie is the one where Moose and Camille dance to “I Won’t Dance”. Nothing fancy and nothing acrobatic. Just two person dancing and act silly together. It felt so light-hearted, cheerful and somewhat romantic.(Yeah, I'm cheesy.)

Talking about romantic, there’s Luke and Natalie. Yes, they showed interest to one another and yes, they lived happily ever after at the end of the movie but somehow I didn’t feel like rooting for them. I don’t know, maybe it was poorly written and never got expanded enough due to the amount of dancing in this movie. Who knows, who cares.

In conclusion, would I recommend this movie? Absolutely. The dancers and the dance moves are out of this world. It’s fun to watch and well-worth the RM15 I spent. Oh, and did I mentioned the robot man? He’s cool too.

The Dog and The Monkey

I saw this story a while a back and I just couldn't resist changing it into Sabahan Malay. BUT with a few changes from the original,of course.

Enjoy. xD

Cuba ko gosok gia, mangkali pandai kuar tu jin kasi tunai ko punya permintaan". Si munyit pun tanpa pikir banyak-banyak terus gosok tu lampu.Naaah,betul-betul bah kuar tu jin.

Si jin cakap, "Mmmbah, kestau apa yg kamurang mau.Masing-masing ni saya bagi 3 permintaan".Si anjing yang mimang terkenal dengan sikap gatal pun apa lagi. First wish dia, "Saya mau semuaaa anjing dalam ni hutan kena kasi tukar pigi betina". Dia punya permintaan kena kasi tunai.

Si munyit pikir lama-lama apa yang dia mau.Last-last dia cakap "Bagi saya helmet motor ja". Lepas tu helmet muncul depan dia, terus dia pakai cepat-cepat.

"Aaah,alang-alang sudah kan....SAYA MAO KO TUKAR SEMUUUA ANJING DALAM NI DUNIA PI BETINA!BIAR DURANG BEREBUT-REBUT SAYA SATURANG!!MWAHAHAHA!!"

Permintaan ditunaikan.

Si munyit pi naik motor baru dia lepas tu pecut berabis.Lepas lebih kurang 50 meter gitu, dia pun teriak kuat-kuat sama tu jin, "SAYA WISH TU ANJING SUPAYA DIA TUKAR JADI GAY!!!"

New Hair Color

Yesterday, I finally did the unthinkable. I got myself a new hair color for the first time, after all these years wishing for one.

One might say, "Minta puji jua ko ni. Why don't you do it a looooooooooong time ago? Bukannya susah.".You have no idea my friend. You wanna know why?

Mostly, my parents were against it. In their mind, people who color their hair are bad, bad people and they are the ones who terrorize this country with their bad-ass attitude, wrecking havoc everywhere, using their hair as a statement for their rebellious nature.

Not exactly true is it? Luckily I manage to talk my mom into it [We even went to the saloon together by the way. Don't ask me how I did it xD] and although my dad was surprised when he saw my new hair at first, he didn't have any complain. Can I say," Nasiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiib~" ? xDD

Next I was a bit intimidated about the result of the color. Will it look good on me or will I turn into a pilak wannabe? Since I don't have a fair skin nor a face with a hint of Korean/Japanese/Chinese look, my concern is justified. Luckily, it turned out well.

...at least in my mind it is. Not too bright but still noticeable.

Peduli la kalao kamurang cakap macam pilak. I still like it. ;)
